Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can I expect concerning a massage?

Massage sessions are in a private room. During the massage you will be completely covered with a sheet and blanket. We only undrape one area at a time as we address it (so we will undrape your leg, massage the area, and cover it back up before moving on to the other leg). You will dress and undress in complete privacy. Ultimately you are the on in charge of your session and you are free to request a change to the treatment plan at any time.

  • Do I have to be undressed during massage?

    • It is up to you. Some wonderful work can be done over clothing, but it is important to know is that if there is a specific area that you would like focused and deep work on, the therapist needs to be able to access skin.

    • Most people choose to leave their undergarments on during a massage.

    • For those with discomfort in the hips and low back it is common to leave undergarments off so the therapist can work on the gluteus and deep lateral rotator muscles. We use special draping so that you are never exposed.

    • Remember, this is your body and you are in charge. We must receive your consent for a treatment plan or changes to a treatment plan. We will not do anything that you are not comfortable with.

  • Is massage painful?

NO!

Massage should not be painful!

We do not locate a knot in your muscle and then dig in with our elbows to get as much pressure as possible on it.

There is a difference between your own pain in your body being worked out and the therapist causing pain. It is very common to find places in muscles that are tender and even radiate pain. The therapist works with you and your breath, very slowly and very gently, to work these out. Surprisingly, clients often find it to be very relaxing. However, if you are wincing, or you can't breathe, it is too much pressure. We move at your pace and only to the level you can tolerate. Just because it does not hurt badly or we do not use intense pressure does not mean we are not making a difference. Our work is effective.

  • How will I feel after my massage session?

You should feel wonderful!!! If we do deeper clinical work, you may be a little sore the next day. Drinking plenty of water usually helps with that. There are occasions where people bruise from massage, but that is uncommon and typically only happens if someone generally bruises very easily or is taking a blood thinning medication.

  • How often should I receive a massage?

This depends on the health of your tissue. For general wellness it is common to receive one massage every month. For recovering from an injury or improving a specific function it may require weekly or biweekly massage sessions.

  • What if I have an artificial joint or medical device? Does that affect massage or craniosacral?

You can still receive massage if you have had joint replacements or medical devices. Please note them on your intake form so we can accommodate appropriately.

  • What can I expect concerning craniosacral?

Craniosacral is performed in a private room. The client is dressed the entire time. For a standard appointment there is a mixture of techniques performed with the client seated, standing, and face up/down on the table. Adjustments are made as needed. Please wear clothing that is easy to move around in. Avoid restrictive business clothing, jeans, or skirts/dresses.

  • How will I feel after craniosacral?

You should feel wonderful!!! Craniosacral typically results in a powerful feeling of complete calm. Depending on what your body decides to release during that appointment, you could feel a little sore or very sore the next day. Soreness does not always happen but if your body releases chronic or extreme tension it is likely. Drinking water and taking an epsom salt bath helps prevent soreness.

  • How often should I receive craniosacral?

That depends on what the client's needs are and the progress of the session. Ultimately, you will know if it is time to book another appointment.

  • What can I expect concerning a private yoga class?

    • We will be in an open space. Yoga mats are provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you have a favorite! We also have plenty of blocks, straps, bolsters, cushions, and any other prop you can think of, but again, you are welcome to bring yours.

    • Most classes involve breathwork, meditation, yoga postures, and potentially some touch assists* (where the instructor uses a hands-on approach to deepen a pose for you).

    • Clients always receive a copy of the yoga flow used each session.

*Touch assists are not performed without verbal consent

  • What should I wear to a yoga class?

    • Something that you can stretch in to your full range of motion. It is no fun to not be able to bend because of jeans.

  • What if I might not be able to do yoga?

    • So, we don't actually think that is possible. We believe that if you can breathe, you can do yoga. If you can't breathe, then yoga is not really something we're going to be thinking about right then anyway, so don't worry about it.

    • We understand that there are an endless number of reasons as to why people believe yoga is not for them. Some people fear that they are not thin enough, flexible enough, or millennial enough to do yoga "correctly." Some people have legitimate circumstances that limit the depth they can achieve in a pose. Some people have religious beliefs that prevent them from exploring yoga. There are many concerns, and we will work with all of them.

    • If you have physical conditions, we will work with you. You can still experience the benefits of yoga! If you are not able to stand for long periods of time, we will do chair yoga. If you have arthritis, we will adapt the poses for you. If you have osteoporosis, we will make sure you do not fall or have the opportunity to get a fracture. We are trained to accommodate in any way necessary so that every person can enjoy this wonderful practice!

  • Can I buy a gift certificate?

Yes! We do sell gift certificates!

  • How do I pay for my session?
